Confused about which tests to take during your pregnancy? The plethora of tests available today, can make your head spin! Watch this video by Dr. Akina Prakash, Humain Health's Consultant Pathologist, to know the important tests to be taken during your first trimester of pregnancy. You should find out early in your pregnancy if your baby is at increased risk of a serious health condition by having a screening test in your first trimester (the first 3 months of pregnancy). Prenatal tests are tests done during pregnancy to check a woman's health and her baby's. They can detect conditions that can put a baby at risk for problems like preterm birth if they're not treated. Tests also can help healthcare providers find things like a birth defect or a chromosomal abnormality. Some prenatal tests are screening tests that can only reveal the possibility of a problem. Other prenatal tests are diagnostic tests that can accurately find whether a foetus has a specific problem. Tests offered in the first 11 weeks of a woman's pregnancy can vary widely and may depend on a host of factors including your age, ethnicity, family history, or your doctor. A screening test sometimes is followed by a diagnostic test. To decide which tests are right for you, talk with your healthcare provider about why a test is recommended, its risks and benefits, and what the results can — and can't — tell you.
